SPE extraction and TLC Identification of Tetracycline and Fluoroquinolone in Surface Water

چکیده
In recent years, pharmaceuticals have been detected in a wide variety of environmental samples including sewage effluent, surface waters, groundwater and drinking water at a concentration from ng/l to μg/l. They are considered as pseudo-persistent pollutants, which continually enter the environment at very low concentrations (Valverde, García, Galera et al., 2006). Among different groups of pharmaceuticals, antibiotics are of special concern: large quantities are administered to humans and animals to treat diseases and infections. They are also used at sub-therapeutic levels to promote growth in livestock. After application, many of them are excreted unchanged or completely metabolized to inactive compounds, but a significant amount is excreted as active metabolites. The most prominent effect of antibiotics in the environment is the development of multi-resistant strains of bacteria (Hirsh, Hernes, Haberer et al. 1999, Valverde, Gil García, Galera, et al. 2006). Fluoroquinolones and tetracyclines are commonly used in human and veterinary medicine and there is danger from their presence in the aquatic environment (Lindberg, Jarnheimer, Olsen et al., 2005, Turiel, Bordin and Rodríguez, 2005, Brown, Kulis, Thomson et al., 2006). Depending on the chemical properties of the individual groups of antibiotics excretion of unchanged active compound is 10-90% (Boxal, Fogg, Kay et al., 2003). Tetracycline (TC), oxytetracycline (OTC) and chlortetracycline (CTC) are antibiotics of the tetracycline group frequently given to animal destined for human consumption, not only to prevent and treat certain diseases but also to accelerate growth (Stockwell and Duffy, 2012, Serrano, 2005). After medication, more than 70% of tetracycline antibiotics are excreted and released in environment in active form via urine and feces (Kuldip, Satish, Gupta et al. 2005). Fluoroquinolone residues can enter the environment mainly as a result of their excretion in the urine of humans and animals, as well as of aquaculture treatments (Boxal et al., 2003, Turiel, Bordin and Rodríguez, 2005, Andreu, Blasco and Pico, 2007). Abstract Background: There are various methods for morphine extraction and detection, for this, Thin Layer Chromatography (TLC) is a useful tool. The most common detection technique of TLC plates is slit scanning densitometry. The aim of the present study was to compare the ability of a solid phase extraction (SPE) system with liquid-liquid extraction (LLE) for urinary detection of morphine by...
متن کاملComparison of liquid-liquid extraction-thin layer chromatography with solid-phase extraction-high-performance thin layer chromatography in detection of urinary morphine
Liquid-liquid extraction-thin layer chromatography (LLE-TLC) has been a common and routine combined method for detection of drugs in biological materials. Solid-phase extraction (SPE) is gradually replacing the traditional LLE method. High performance thin layer chromatography (HPTLC) has several advantages over TLC. The present work studied the higher efficiency of a new SPE-HPTLC method over ...
متن کاملSolid-Phase Extraction and Simultaneous Determination of Tetracycline Residues in Edible Cattle Tissues Using an HPLC-FL Method
In this assay, edible cattle tissues from local markets of Ardabil, a Province of Iran, were examined for residues of tetracycline antibiotics (tetracycline, oxytetracycline and chlortetracycline). In total, 110 samples of triceps, gluteal muscle, diaphragm, kidney and liver were randomly obtained from the local markets of the city of Ardabil. Solid-phase extraction (SPE) and high-performance l...

Solid phase extraction (SPE) or liquid-solid extraction is poplar and growing techniques that areused to sample preparation for analysis. Metal nanoparticles have been studied for decades, and this is due to the properties that these materials do not have in bulk state. In nanoscale materials, the numbers of surface atoms is high and hence, have significant surface effects. A novel, simpl...
متن کاملReview of preconcentration and solid phase extraction for the determination of trace Lead
Spectrometric techniques for the analysis of trace lead have developed rapidly due to the increasing need for accurate measurements at extremely low levels of this element in diverse matrices. This review covers separation and preconcentration procedures, and considers the features of the application with several spectrometric techniques. The use of an appropriate sample handling technique is a...
